Customer Profile

Sports Leaders UK is the new operating name of the British Sports Trust, a registered charity who believes that everyone has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to their local community. With 50 employees, the charity is based in Milton Keynes and is an official awarding body of nationally recognised leadership qualifications. Sports Leaders Awards use the medium of sport to help people learn essential skills such as working with and organising others, as well as motivation, communication and teamwork skills. The charity works with schools, community halls, universities and prisons and a wide range of community groups.

Challenge

The Charity's needs were quite straightforward - they wanted a solution which would provide financial information to put the management team in control of the business. They needed a system that could produce all financial statements and give a good clear audit path.



Solution

Steve Neate, Finance and General Administration Manager, has used Pegasus Payroll in previous roles and was very keen to introduce the solution to Sports Leaders. He was impressed with the functionality and integration Pegasus solutions offer. Jan Newman-Bracey, Steve's assistant, has also used Pegasus solutions previously and Cashbook was a module that Jan was particularly impressed with:

Results

Steve was keen to get the system installed and running as soon as possible, so he arranged a product demonstration immediately with their Pegasus Partner. From the demonstration, Steve could see it had all the functionality the charity needed and was happy with the cost. He wanted Opera II Enterprise installed straight away to make full use of modules such as Purchase Ledger, Nominal Ledger and particularly the Payroll module.

Now that they are actively using the new system, Sports Leaders is able to see the clear benefits from the installation; Steve has greater management of the charity's accounts and he has found the solution to be an excellent tool for auditing purposes.
"The screens are easily viewable; we have found Opera II to be a good solid package. It does what we want it to and has never let us down."

Pegasus Opera II Payroll & HR is the ideal solution for small to medium-sized businesses. It has been designed to ensure that complicated Payroll procedures are simplified and performed automatically, particularly statutory sick and maternity pay. Sports Leaders filed online for the first time this year and Steve found the process very straightforward and hassle free:

"We didn't have any problems as it was a straightforward and simple process. Online filing is more efficient and convenient than paper filing, it's accurate and uses the information already generated through normal Payroll processing, removing the need to re-key data."

Steve is particularly impressed with the links to the Nominal Ledger, Cashbook and Costing financial modules of Opera II, and definable cheque and payslip designs to suit the company's stationery requirements. Employees can be paid via BACS, reducing the time and costs required to process payments, which has also proved to be one of Steve's favourite features of the module.

The future for Sports Leaders

Steve is very interested in P11D organiser, which contains current HMRC information to assist with any legislative queries. Once installed it will integrate with Opera II Payroll which includes employer and employee benefits and expenses. Fleet and periodic reports will also be included, with e-mail, PDF and print facilities.
